So yesterday I mentioned that I am joining the 365 Somethings 2018 Project. Hosted by Tammy Garcia and Hannah Andersson, this is a challenge anyone can join and the actual project is completely open ended. As long as we commit to creating 365 different pieces, it doesn't matter how often we create them or what we create. Simply create your 365 pieces over the year and share what you make on Instagram, #365somethings2018.
Like I said, I'm super excited about it because with the way I'm going to do it, I think I can reap the benefits of the challenge—to improve and make more art—without actually creating more work for myself AND without having to create something every day. And it will be so cool to have 365 "somethings" at the end of the year!
What I'm going to do is make a series seven tags per week based on the Art Fix project in class that week. Since we do a different mixed media project every week at the studio, I will have 52 weeks of 7 tags by the end of the year—365 in total!
It took me the first week of January to figure out what I was going to do, so I did spend the last week catching up on week 1 as well as completing week 2. But now they're done and ready to show you!
This week our Art Fix project was Abstract Collage, so I made seven abstract art pieces featuring collage and acrylic paint:
I began by creating one abstract collage piece on watercolor paper and then cut it up and mounted the smaller pieces on painted tags, ending up with seven unique tags! I really like the background colors of the tags.
This week our Art Fix project was "Visions Like Bubbles", so I made seven tags featuring bubbles:
Since we explored how to paint bubbles with acrylic paint and then how to make more abstract bubbles out of ink and art sticks (Gelatos and water soluble oil pastels). I played with both kinds of bubbles in this series. I think I like both ways!
I'm really loving this challenge so far. Only 351 more "somethings" to go!
