This is a new page in my art journal and it was a powerful one. It pretty much captures a decision that I worked out visually, and I want to share it with you. You'll understand why in a minute.
The struggle: I was weighing the idea of a new project — this new blog — against many logical reasons not to do it.
Inner Critic: "It will be a waste of time......No one cares. What do you have to say that can help people?...I know you, you're not going to keep with it..."
Here's what the page looked like during all that negativity:
But then the page progressed into some counter thoughts—something like "If they can do it..."
And then the page fell back into more darkness again:
Finally, though, out of the visual debate came this silhouette (which I hand painted using a reference image). I knew intuitively that she expressed in form what I could not at first articulate—except for that one remaining word: Dance.
It was only later that the truth came to me. The words don't show up well in the photograph, but here's what I heard—and I knew instantly which choice I'd make:
So here I am launching this new blog because I choose "dance" and I hope that you will also choose to dance with me!

Now for my mission statement:
1. This is for you.
I believe the world does not need another art blog that simply says, "See what I made" and "Buy Here." While I will be sharing my art and my process, I will always be focusing on how what I make and learn can help you.
2. Honesty and Transparency
While I don't sell my art, time in the studio is for sale. So if you're local I will not lie, I do hope this little blog will entice you to art with me at Createful Studio. However, my hope for this blog goes beyond that.
What I really want to do is connect with you if and when you're not at the studio. The studio is small and there's not a lot of space. This blog is my way of reaching out and making more space in between times you come down to the studio—and for more people who live further away and can't come at all.
I only have a little time to write and you only have a little time to read, so generally, I'll make it a fast read with lots of pics (and maybe video one day soon!) And when it's not a fast read...well, it'll be worth your time.
4. We gotta have FUN here...
I won't be all serious all the time. Sometimes I will, sometimes I'll tell you all kinds of useful art secrets...but...
5. Shhh! My Art Journal is a Diva
I'll tell you all about it—or maybe SHE will tell you...soon. Stay tuned for...Diary of an Art Journal, a new special blog series...
In any event, though, you can look forward to FAST and FUN blog posts that will support and enrich your own creative practice.
Oh — but you don't have a creative practice?
We'll talk about that next time.
(Subscribe in the sidebar of the blog now so you don't miss it!)
P.S. I'd LOVE to hear what you think about all this...Leave comments below, on social media or email me—no, really!
